Sabra has vitiligo, a skin condition that causes pale flecks on her body and marks her as an outcast in her tribe in West Africa in the late 1800s. Growing up parentless, ostracized and bullied, she seeks refuge with the shaman, who raises her as her own to be her successor. When Sabra comes of age, the shaman bestows her with the gift of transformation - Sabra is able to shift into a cheetah at will. The joy Sabra feels at harnessing this power is indescribable. Like so many stories, however, this happy event is followed by a series of tragedies, and Sabra ends up on a perilous journey - travelling huge distances and encountering pirates, other shifters, and perhaps even romance, along the way.
